GABRIELLE MOULDING

Gabrielle has seen an enviable amount of the world. Although she was born and is now based in the UK, she studied at Edinburgh University, Scotland and then spent 17 years travelling with her family, living in Paris, Johannesburg, Seoul, Sydney, Tokyo and New York. In her work, she fuses the bottled inspiration and techniques that she was exposed to on her travels from both the Eastern and Western Worlds.

Last year, Gabrielle was awarded the Gwen Mandley Memorial Award at the Chelsea Art Society, London and has exhibited her work at several impressive shows over the last few years, including the Mall Galleries in London. Her recent paintings remarkably capture the light she finds in landscapes, seascapes and the urban world around her.

3 Minutes with Gabrielle

Where is the strangest place you've ever created art?
Probably the most challenging place I created art was when I decided to paint Grand Central Station on a rainy day in New York. I found a corner of the station and started setting up when the heavily armed NYPD police approached me. They said I could paint but not with an easel. That's quite difficult if one is painting in oils! Eventually, the police relented and I managed to complete a painting.

What is your desert island disc?
Barbara Streisand – ‘Happy Days Are Here Again’

Favourite place to travel to and why?
I can’t wait to be able to travel back to Tokyo, Japan, for the people, culture, and incredible food!
